न्यूजीलैंड के तेज गेंदबाज मैट हेनरी ने 10 ओवर में 55 रन देकर चार विकेट झटके जबकि कप्तान मिचेल सैंटनर ने 10 ओवर में 55 रन देकर दो विकेट हासिल किए। माइकल ब्रेसवेल और नाथन स्मिथ ने दो-दो विकेट हासिल किए।

वह मेजबान की ओर से एकमात्र बल्लेबाज थे जिन्होंने श्रीलंका के गेंदबाजों पर दबाव बनाया हुआ था। मिचेल सैंटनर सिर्फ दो रन बनाकर आउट हो गए। नाथन स्मिथ ने 17 रनों की पारी खेली। श्रीलंका की ओर से एहसान मलिंगा ने सात ओवर में 35 रन देकर तीन विकेट झटके जबकि आसिथा फर्नांडो और महीष तीक्षणा ने 3-3 विकेट झटके। इस मैच में श्रीलंका के गेंदबाजों ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया और न्यूजीलैंड के बल्लेबाजों पर दबाव बनाए रखा।
