अगरकर ने अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन को ड्रॉप करने पर दी सफाई

अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन ने बॉर्डर-गावस्कर टेस्ट सीरीज़ और इंग्लैंड दौरे में भारतीय टीम में हिस्सा लिया था। हालांकि उन्हें अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पदार्पण का मौका नहीं मिला। पिछले तीन सीज़न से वह लगातार भारतीय टेस्ट टीम में जगह बनाने के लिए प्रयासरत रहे हैं।

इंग्लैंड दौरे के बाद, अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन के पिता रंगनाथन ईश्वरन ने कहा कि उनके बेटे को पदार्पण के बाद लंबे समय तक खेलने का आश्वासन भारत के मुख्य कोच गौतम गंभीर ने दिया था। हालाँकि, 30 वर्षीय अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन को वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ दो मैचों की टेस्ट सीरीज़ में भारत की 15 सदस्यीय टीम में नहीं चुना गया, तो प्रशंसक हैरान रह गए।

दुबई में प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस के दौरान, मुख्य चयनकर्ता अजीत अगरकर ने टीम की घोषणा की, अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन की अनुपस्थिति का सवाल ज़रूर उठा। पूर्व भारतीय तेज़ गेंदबाज़ ने कहा कि घरेलू सीरीज़ के लिए तीसरे सलामी बल्लेबाज़ की ज़रूरत नहीं है। अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन को हवाई जहाज से बुलाया जा सकता है अगर  ज़रूरत पड़ी।

“आम तौर पर, जब आप यात्रा करते हैं, तो आप 16 या 17 खिलाड़ी साथ ले जाते हैं। आप एक तीसरा सलामी बल्लेबाज़ ले जाते हैं। यहाँ अगर कोई चोट या कुछ और होता है, तो आप किसी भी खिलाड़ी को हवाई जहाज़ से बुला सकते हैं। यहाँ हमारे पास अक्षर पटेल के रूप में एक अतिरिक्त ऑलराउंडर है, जो इंग्लैंड दौरे का हिस्सा नहीं था। हम सिर्फ़ 15 खिलाड़ी ही चुन सकते हैं,” अगरकर ने कहा।

“उसकी कहानी में कोई दम नहीं है। केएल और जायसवाल ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया है, इसलिए हमें टीम में तीसरे सलामी बल्लेबाज़ की ज़रूरत नहीं है। ज़रूरत पड़ने पर, हम उसे हवाई जहाज़ से बुलाकर एक टेस्ट मैच खेल सकते हैं,” उन्होंने आगे कहा।
